The Seven Rules of Translation
- Don’t rush!
- Section off the sentence or clause for translation.
- Find the verb in your sentence/clause and parse it (number? person?
tense?).
- Find the noun in the nominative
that governs the verb in your
sentence/clause.
- See if there are any accusative
nouns (direct objects) in the sentence/clause.
- Make a basic
translation.
- Fit any other words in
your sentence/clause (e.g. adverbs, locations) into your translation.
